Professor Robert Pool
Professor Pool studied cultural anthropology at the University of Amsterdam, receiving his PhD in 1989. He carried out ethnographic studies in India and Cameroon. He spent eight years in Tanzania and Uganda carrying out research relating to HIV/AIDS before joining the LSHTM as a senior lecturer for five years where he began researching the sociocultural aspects of malaria in Tanzania, Gambia and Mozambique. As Professor in medical anthropology at the Barcelona Centre for International Health Research he led two multinational projects involving on the sociocultural aspects of malaria prevention in infants and during pregnancy.
He joined the University of Amsterdam in 2010 and since 2014 he has directed the Health Care and Body Research Programme Group.
